Many people have a frustrating time when trying to use Twitter on Internet Explorer and Firefox, due to a bug on the Twitter Website that has apparently been ignored by the Twitter Development Team. When attempting to “Tweet to” another user the browser hangs and you get a “script running error.” Stopping the script has not effect, and from that point on you are unable to Tweet.
Why has this bug been persistent for so long without being fixed? My guess is that power-users don’t use the Twitter Website, but other tools, like TweetDeck or Hootsuite. The actual live person who tries to use Twitter is probably a small enough percentage to ignore. How does Twitter make money in the first place? I have no idea. Having some frustrated users is probably not hitting them in the pocketbook, and that’s what really counts’ isn’t it?
The only answer that I have found is to use Google Chrome. I’m able to tweet away without my browser hanging. If you need to use multiple browsers to access multiple accounts, I suggest sticking to Chrome and using the Swap My Cookies Add-on to change from account to account. Or you can hold your breath until Twitter fixes their website.
